As it usually takes the courage to admit guilt. Das Schauspiel erschien als Buchausgabe zuerst 1961.Seeing the world develop in a more and more bizarre direction, I remember our high school performance of Max Frisch's Andorra. Die Bewohner Andorras reagieren mit Feindseligkeiten gegenüber dem Anderen, dem Fremden.
With the NZZ he would entertain a lifelong ambivalent love-hate relationship, for his own views were in stark contrast to the conservative views promulgated by this newspaper. There are also good performances from Alec Newman as Andri, Jack Shepherd as the Teacher and Aoife McMahon as his daughter. Thompson retains the lines but abandons their judicial context, thus depriving the play of its retrospective irony. Every single one of them justified himself and acted like they were not the one to blame despite being part of that cruel society that destroyed him.I read this as a German A Level text.
This play really got the human psychology behind shifting blame, playing the role you are given, and what anger does to the psyche and soul. 12 Primärliteratur: Frisch Max, Andorra (S.2) (Tabelle selbst erstellt) Prosaveröffentlichungen Tagebuch 1946-1949 (1950) Stiller (1954) Homo faber (1957) Mein Name sei Gantenbein (1964) Tagebuch 1966-1971 (1972) Dienstbüchlein (1974) Montauk (1975) Erzählungen Der Traum des Apothekers von Locarno (1978) Der Mensch erscheint im Holozän. So many little bits made me wince while um some of my classmates were politely baffled haha. When compared to other works of german literature I've read, Andorra looks like a snow-white masterpiece. I think it was the first time I'd heard of the Verfremdungseffekt ("distancing effect") in plays - which I guess I should remember I really like, based on the fact that I fucking adored Brecht's The Good Person of Setzuan lol.
It was interesting in many ways and specifically how it depicts the way public opinion and words used to describe a person, can influence (and destroy) one's self-esteem and the picture of oneself.
Really good play about a small fictional country presumably on the german border where tensions are growing as they expect an invasion. Dieses Schicksal heißt in Max Frischs Stück »Judsein«. This was an odd one. Very much reminded me of our times today. And about the people's nature to try to shift the responsibility and guilt to somebody else. When you begin to read it, for about two thirds of the play, you are aware you are watching a tragedy unfold. Inexplicably, director Gregory Thompson also jettisons Frisch's precise framework. Andoraa is all about the negative implications of stereotypes and what they can drive people to do.Its not one of those books wich are easy to understand (thats at least my experience) it got a lot more sence than you might think ... for me its about prejudiced people with no social sences and the sad thing about it is that its so close to reality.ok so this is a german book i had to read for school and i totally hated it.
I have never felt so closely what it most be like when government forces come and collect those that are different to be taken away and killed. dann noch eine aufgabenstellung wie z.B. At times it also reminded me of Shirley Jacksons 'The Lottery' or 'Lord of the Flies'. In dem Drama „Andorra“ thematisiert Max Frisch die antisemitischen Vorurteile der Gesellschaft und die Auswirkungen auf die jüdische Bevölkerung.
At times it also reminded me of Shirley Jacksons 'The Lottery' or 'Lord of the Flies'. I finally gave it away.
T he Young Vic is clearly fascinated by scapegoats.
Another representative of postwar literature. Like, force it down your throat overt. Also all characters make it easy to identify with them.
It really affected me. If the play is about the need to understand human complexity, you rather wish that Frisch had practised what he preached.
Der Lehrer hat mit einer Spanierin ein Kind.
The assumption that one clearly stands above others and can kill them instead of giving them a fair trial if one likes has not. And I get that Frisch was trying for a classical tragedy style, but does Barblin really need to be Andri's sister? After the ritual murder of an Irish tramp in Afore Night Come, we now have the persecution of a supposed Jew in Max Frisch's Andorra. Max Rudolph Frisch was born in 1911 in Zurich; the son of Franz Bruno Frisch (an architect) and Karolina Bettina Frisch (née Wildermuth). he Young Vic is clearly fascinated by scapegoats. Yet it turns out to be one of my favorite books and I really try to take the moral of it to heart. Elements such as this made this play seem particularly heavy handed to me. It is a very tragic story and at times it was really hard to continue reading because he was treated in such a disgusting and realistic way. This and the constant mention of "Die Schwartzer" coming over the pass just made me want to say 'why don't you just set the play in Germany? Really good play about a small fictional country presumably on the german border where tensions are growing as they expect an invasion.
